To Messrs. Macleod,

The undersigned having been requested to examine Mr. Quin, Superintendent of Police,

Meantime Thane, I beg to state that I have this day carefully examined Mr. Quin, Superintendent of Police.

The officer has served upwards of twenty-six years in tropical climates, West and East;

During the spring of 1867, whilst in Hong Kong, he had dengue fever, followed by great prostration and debility. He had sustained a fracture of the left fore-arm; and since his return home, the neck of the left thigh bone has been fractured, causing shortening of that limb. I consider that Mr. Quin, through severe tropical service, and the injuries he have received, is incapacitated for further service in Hong Kong.

Right Honble. Sir B. B. Adderley,

Under Secretary of State for the Colonies,

Colonial Office.

Hong Kong, 19 June 1868.

Copy forwarded to Sir P. M. on 27 June 1868.

Confirmed on 23 July 1868.

REGD. JUNE 30 1868.

37 Upper Brook Street,

June 8th 1868.

I have the honour to report, for the information of His Grace The Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, that

J.L. Martin,

Inspector General of Hospitals.
